WOOSTER “ Alma Lenore Bowdle, 97, of Wooster passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Wooster.
She was born January 14, 1920 in Waynesfield, Ohio, the daughter of Jesse Alvador and Cordelia Ethra Horn Bowdle.
She graduated from Waynesfield High School in 1938.   Music was her passion, earning a Bachelor ™s degree from Bowling Green University and later a Masters from The Ohio State University.
Her first teaching job was at Arcadia Rural in 1942, earning a salary of $1200 per year.   She taught music in Galion for 20 years.   While there she also directed a choir at her church.   Her teaching career finished with 20 years in the Wooster City Schools.   After retirement she directed the Chancel Choir at Central Christian Church of which she is a member.
Lenore loved to entertain college classmates, students, family and friends for special luncheons, often in her rose garden which she was so proud of.   She also enjoyed many European trips with the Bowling Green Alumni.
Surviving is a sister, Dorothy (Dr. Robert) Kugel of Arlington, VA; nephews, Paul and Ed Smith; nieces, Annetta Tucker, Martha Warden, Alice Dewar, Gretchen and Jennie Kugel, Monte Kugel-Goldstein and Kristine Frazier.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, John, Laurel, Alice, Grace and Florence.
As per her wishes, there will be no local services.   A burial service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairmount Cemetery, 21770 Fairmount Rd., Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
