Arthur W. Meigs, 87, of Wooster passed peacefully on Thursday November 12, 2015 at West View Healthy Living.
He was born May 8, 1928, in Warren, to the late Arthur E. and Sarah Rosenbaum Meigs.   On June 26, 1955 he married Marilyn Lahm. She survives.
Art was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Ohio State University until his enlistment in the U. S. Army on occupational duty in Japan.   He was honorably discharged in 1948.   Art moved to Wooster in 1953 and began a longtime sales career in the downtown Wooster Sears store and was well known in the area for his expertise for fixing sewing machines.  
Art lived his life as a true pioneering spirit introducing SCUBA diving into the Wooster area teaching for many years at the Y.M.C.A. and the College of Wooster.   Through his work at Wooster Office Equipment Art was a frontrunner of the introduction of computers in the early 1980s to many area businesses.
In his retirement, he became an accomplished wood carver winning many awards for his bird and fish carvings at the Wayne County Fair and local carving shows.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and was an avid tennis player, forming a formidable doubles team with his son Doug for many years.
Along with his wife, Art is survived by his children Cindy (Doug) Henshaw of Wooster, Susanne Meigs of Columbus and Doug (Clarica œJojo ) Meigs of Wooster; grandchildren Dan and Jill Henshaw and Chris and Spencer Meigs.
Along with his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Clifton and Phillip Meigs.
Memorial services will be held on Monday November 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St., Wooster with Rev. Dr. Kevan Franklin officiating.   The family will receive friends following the service with a luncheon served in the church fellowship hall.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
