C. Russell Oehlenschlager, 95
After a life well lived and well loved, Russ œBig O passed to the Lord on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Russ was born on June 28, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio.  Russ was married to Verna (Beers) Oehlenschlager for 69 years.
Following graduation from high school, Russ began his career working on the Great Lakes with Pittsburgh Steamship Company as a third engineer.  Russ joined the Merchant Marines in 1940, proudly serving our country during WWII.   After discharge from the Merchant Marines, Russ worked briefly for Generic Electric Corporation and Astatic Corporation in Conneaut, Ohio.   In 1950, Russ went to work for the Hartford Steam Boiler Company as a Boiler Inspector/Engineer.  After 18 years of working for Hartford, Russ took a position with Bechtel Group as an Inspector in Supplier Quality on many major projects.   Russ retired from Bechtel Group in 1984 after an extensive career.
In retirement, Russ and Verna remained very active and enjoyed golfing, bowling, winter escapes to Florida and helping raise their grandchildren.   Also in his retirement he worked for The College Of Wooster at the golf course for over 25 years.   Russ always had a love of the Great Lakes and bought a sailboat he enjoyed sailing.   He was initiated in Evergreen Lodge of Conneaut and was an active member of other Masonic bodies in Wooster.   He was a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Elks.   Along the way, Russ earned his private pilot ™s license and was very proud of this accomplishment.   Big O always loved to sing and was a choir member of both the Wooster United Methodist Church and Englewood (Florida) United Methodist Church.   As a member of the Wayneaires Barbershop Chorus he also participated in quartet singing, and was fondly remembered as Fred Flintstone.   Russ remained an avid OSU fan and a believer in the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
Russ ™ loving wife Verna continues to reside in their Wooster, Ohio, home where they raised their two daughters, Janet (Ralph) Mohr and Diane (Kevin) Gannon.   Russ was very proud of his five grandchildren; Karl (Vianey) Mohr, Dr. Katie (Michael) Heckel, Kelly Mohr, Doug (Alyson) Gannon and Dr. Jeffrey Gannon (Dr. Gretchen Stieg). Russ will be dearly missed by his four great-grandchildren; Brandon & Mackenzie Heckel and Katya & Natasha Mohr.
