Calvin œCal McCoy, 89, of Wooster passed away peacefully at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster on January 3, 2016.
Born in Buckhannon, WV, on August 17, 1926 to Roy and Pauline McCoy, he was the youngest of five boys (Howard, Robert, James, John) all preceding him in death.   He was preceded also by a son-in-law, James Fyfe.
Cal left high school during World War II to join the US Navy as a shipfitter on LST898.   He was SO proud of the eighteen months he spent in the South Pacific and won the war!!!   After completing his high school education, Cal enrolled in West Liberty State College where he met the love of his life, Beverly Baker.   They were married the day, May 31, 1951, he received his BA in Education.   In 1953 the couple came to Coventry High School and the rest is history.   Cal taught there for 30 years.
He was most proud of ALL of his œboys in sports and the classroom!   He cherished the memory of the last Coventry team to win the Metro League Championship.   After football, Cal received his Master ™s in Administration from the University of Akron.   But he chose to establish the first OWE program at Coventry High.   To him attitude, appearance and hard work were the keys to success!
Even though the family had already moved to Seville, OH, the Portage Lakes was always dear to his heart.   After retirement, Cal and Bev traveled extensively, but still enjoyed their golf at Rawiga Country Club.   He was also a Civil War buff.   He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, ORTA, Masons and Elks as well as Central Christian Church.
Left to mourn Cal ™s passing are his devoted wife of 64 ½ years, Beverly; children Candace and Michael McCoy, granddaughters Mateya, Gwendolyn and Riqui and a great granddaughter as well as favorite nieces and nephews and extended family.   Family meant so much to Calvin ”AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE!
