WOOSTER – Carola Lioba Lucci, 75, of Wooster, loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and great- aunt, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and under the care of LifeCare Hospice of Wooster.
Carol was born in Flieden, Germany on July 2, 1940 to Klara-Angelika Atzert and Bernhard-Josef Atzert. While in Germany, she attended primary school in Flieden and Marienschule Fulda. Ultimately, Carol got an education to become an office clerk for Bertas Wachswaren, a German candle company.
She landed in the United States on Oct. 31, 1961 and on  Nov. 1, 1961, she arrived in Wooster with her then husband, James V. Lucci Jr. of the United States Air Force, to explore new opportunities in America. Once here, she began working for Frito-Lay in Wooster making many lifelong friends. After 41 years of dedicated service to Frito-Lay, she retired in 2003.
Carol had a broad range of interests carrying out numerous activities in Wooster. Even after Carol retired, she continued taking care of people ™s taxes at H & R Block, which she did for 15 years stopping in 2006. For a large portion of her life in Wooster, Carol was an avid bowler and played in a league at Wayne Lanes and Plaza Lanes making her way into the 600 club and aiding her team to many victories. Carol faithfully attended St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church since she moved to Wooster and was a member of the American Legion and Wooster Moose Lodge.
Carol loved to volunteer for different organizations in Wooster. The organization most close to her was Hospice where she put in more than 500 hours of service, receiving the volunteer of the year award in 2008.
Most often, Carol could be found for lunch at the Madison Hill Bob Evans where Tina and the rest of the staff welcomed her with smiling faces and made her feel like she was home every day she ate there.
Carol so dearly loved one of the family pets, Maci, who was with her through the last few years and watched over her as she was at Hospice.
The most important aspect of life for Carol was her family. She would welcome anyone to lunch where she would spur thoughtful and intelligent conversation. At every major event, she would always be front and center with a big smile and tell you how proud she was. She will be truly missed and we know she will watch over us and follow us through our lives.
Carol is survived by her sister, Thea Wiegand, and her brother, Father Rudholf Atzert;   nieces and nephews, Fritz-Josef  (Christiane) Wiegand,   Peter (Michaela) Wiegand,   Christoph (Petra) Wiegand, Angelika (Stephan) Reith,   Gerhard (Marion) Wiegand,   Ellen (Martin) Zell; great nieces and nephews, Daniela and Alexander Wiegand, Markus and Carolin Wiegand, Daniel Wiegand, Sarah and Laura Wiegand and Elias Zell, all of Flieden, Germany. In the United States, Carol is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (James) Hasapis and Barbara Wheeler; grandchildren, Mallory Lucci, Justin (Keri) Hughes, Alexander Hasapis and Bailey Wheeler; great-grandchild, Rylee Campbell. She is preceded in death by her parents,   Klara-Angelika Atzert and Bernhard-Josef Atzert; brother, Gerhard Atzert; brother-in-law, Alois Wiegand; and daughter, Sandra Lucci.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at 10 o ™clock at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 17, 5-8 p.m. at McIntire, Bradham and Sleek Funeral Home.
