WOOSTER – Edgar George GARVIN, 99, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
He was born February 3, 1916 in Morgan County, OH, the son of Dallas and Hazel Elliott Garvin. He married Helen Hieber Culbertson on July 14, 1973. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2003.
He retired as a teacher from Wooster City Schools after 22 years of employment and had previously taught at Shade High School in Athens County, Cumberland High School and Pleasant City High School both in Guernsey County for a total of 35 years of teaching.
He was a 62 year member of the Wooster United Methodist Church, a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Assn., a member of the Wooster Kiwanis Club, a life member of Wayne Co. Historical Society, a member of the Wayne Co. Humane Society and a member of the Downtown Rebounders Assn.
Surviving are his step children, Pat Rooney of Glen Allen, VA, and Robert Culbertson of Skaneateles, NY; step-grandchildren, Kelly Orr, Marni Swinehart, Nicholas Swinehart and Jessica Razatos, step-great-grandchildren, Nicole Flowers, Kolbi Swinehart, Celestino , Balthazar, Absalom and Demeter Razatos and a step-great-great-grandson, Bryson Arnold.
In addition to his wife Helen, Edgar was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Florence Leiter Garvin on August 16, 1970, a step-daughter Jo Swinehart and a sister, Josephine Johnson.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 5:00 p.m. service on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster with the Rev. Charles Tobias officiating. Private family burial will be held.
