WOOSTER – Gerald Jerry Majka, 79, of Wooster died peacefully at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville on September 16, 2016 after a long illness.
Jerry was born Oct. 25, 1936 to the late Albert and Estelle Majka and graduated from Lorain High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Dona (Harmon) Majka, in 1958.
He was employed at Jakmas Plumbing and Heating for 46 years, earning his Journeyman Plumber Certificate in 1960, later moving to the Estimator position at Jakmas until his retirement in 1998. He was a 50-year, life-time member of the United Association of Journeyman & Apprentices of the Pipefitting Industry and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 42 Union, Norwalk. He served as Secretary to the local union when it was in Lorain.
An active member of both Nativity BVM Catholic Church of Lorain and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Glenmont, he served as Lector and for many years as Chairman of Nativity’s 50-50 Raffle. One of his greatest honors was being named Nativity’s Holy Name Man of the Year.
Jerry was a passionate golfer and enjoyed bowling. However, his greatest pleasure was entertaining family and friends, especially grandchildren, at their beautiful log cabin in the woods at Lake Buckhorn, Millersburg. Teaching the grandchildren how to drive the John Deere tractor and taking long boat rides on the lake was his pleasure. Always proud of his Polish heritage, polka music (especially Polka People Are Happy People) and polka dancing was the norm to which family and friends dubbed him the Polka King.
