APPLE CREEK – Harlan Dean œDeany  Messner, 69, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron after a lengthy illness on April 20, 2016.
He was born February 11, 1947 to the late Forest Calvin and Esther Mae Puff Messner.   He was a 1967 graduate of Waynedale High School.   After high school, he joined the U.S. Army serving 3 years and took his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and 16th Signal Corps at Ft. Gordon, Georgia and later went overseas to Butzbach, Germany.
After his service career, he was employed by Wooster Parks and Recreation for a short time as well as for Dowell.   He was a member of the Apple Creek Volunteer Fire and EMS retiring after 40 years of service.   He was also a member of the Wayne Co. 40 & 8, VFW of Wooster, AmVets and was a life member of Wilbur Welty Post 147 of Apple Creek.
He is survived by his siblings, Calvin Earl and Janice Joann Messner both of Apple Creek, an aunt, Ethel Shankland and many cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Warren C and Helen Messner of Apple Creek, Frederick and Emma (Arny) Ruff of Canton, an uncle and aunt, John E. and Minnie Brown of Apple Creek and many other uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. service on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.   Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
