James Stephen Parcell, Sr. passed away July 1, 2016 after a short illness.   Jim was born April 6, 1929 in Loudonville, OH, the son of Stephen I. and Eliza T. (Gregory) Parcell.   Jim graduated from Wooster High School in 1947 and attended the College of Wooster.  
On May 4, 1950 he married Marjorie Ann Zerrer, his wife of 61 years. Marjorie passed away on February 4, 2011.   Together they were very active in the community, especially as patrons of The Wooster Symphony Orchestra and music parents at Wooster High School.   They also enjoyed boating and going to Blossom Music Center.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, the Screaming Eagles.   During his 18 months of overseas deployment he served as a battalion message center chief.   Jim was very proud of his division.   œOnce an Eagle, always an Eagle . After his Army service he earned an Associate Degree in Higher Accounting and Business Management from the Wooster Business College.  
Jim was a member of the 101st Airborne Association, The American Legion Post 68, The Wayne County Historical Society, The Salvation Army Advisory Board and was a fifty year member of the United Methodist Church of Wooster.   His service to the church included treasurer and board and commissions member.
Jim was a 50 year Kiwanian.   The Bob Tuck Christmas Run Playground was built during his term as Kiwanis president in 1989-1990. In 2000, he was awarded the George F. Hixon Award for his distinguished service to the Wooster club. He also received the Kiwanis Diamond Section Single Service award in 1990.
Jim ™s lifetime vocation was the grocery business.   It began when he was a senior in high school and after his term in the Army, continued for 57 years until he retired in 2006. He eventually served as a vice-president of Smith ™s Grocery.   In that time he managed each one of Smith ™s three stores.     The National Grocer ™s Association honored him by making him a member of their 50 Year Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane (David) McCartney; his son, James (Dave) Parcell, Jr.; grandchildren Michelle (Aaron) Maxwell, Kristin McCartney, Daniel (Carlee) McCartney and great-grandchild Trey Maxwell.   Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Patricia (Terry) Riley; four nieces, Holly Brinkley, Connie Topovski, Lynn Carrico and Celeste Smith; a nephew, John Kick; and brother-in-law Richard (Beulah) Zerrer and nephews Don, Ron John, Bob and Brian Zerrer and their families.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother William C. (Jean) Parcell, sisters Julia (Elmer) Kick and Garnett (Harold) Kiddney, and a stepson Stephen Phelps.  
Services will be at the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster at 11am on Monday the 11th of July.     Calling hours are at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday the 10th of July from 4-8.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kiwanis Club of Wooster, PO Box 1766, Wooster, OH 44691 or The Salvation Army, 437 S.
