WOOSTER – On a beautiful Sunday morning, November 2, 2014, Joanne L. Mongeau passed away, and was reunited with her loving husband Al.
Born May 28, 1942 to Harold W. Picking and Alma (Webb) Picking in Ashland Ohio. The family moved from Akron to Wooster when Joanne was three years old. She was a 1960 WHS graduate where she was a band majorette and very active in GAA. After graduation, Joanne was a secretary at what is now, the OARDC, then moved to Columbus and worked as a secretary at the Columbus and Southern electric company. In the summer of 1963 she became œMiss Columbus and then the runner-up in the œMiss Ohio pageant.
The move to Columbus brought Capt. Albert Mongeau into her life. He was stationed at Lockbourne AFB before serving as a pilot in Vietnam. They were married May 2, 1964.         Joanne was proud to be a military wife, and was ready to press on when the next assignment came.   She and their children, Karen and David, would meet Al, wherever in the world he was; Laos, Okinawa, California, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Florida. She would make a new home, help other Air Force families and entertain in style. Even the General and his wife.
After Al’s retirement, the family moved to The Woodlands, TX for ten years. Then to Melbourne, FL to be close to their son. Enjoying golf, cards and Joanne ™s passion for reading.
Before she died, Joanne’s granddaughter, Natalie, along with her two-year-old daughter (Joanne ™s great granddaughter) Lydia, flew to Wooster from Okinawa, where Natalie’s husband, Staff Sgt. E “ 5 Michael Applegate, is stationed in the Air Force. Joanne was so proud the military tradition continues  in the  family.
