WOOSTER Joseph R. Benden, Sr., 78, of Wooster passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 7, 1936 in Cassandra, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph H. and Margaret Hodgson Benden. He married Rose Ann Sauger on May 12, 1956. She survives.
He was an owner and operator for McDonalds for 40 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Joe had served 8 years on the Board of Directors of the Wayne Co. National Bank, served as President and Treasurer of the Northeast Ohio McDonald s Operators Association Board of Directors for 20 years, he was a member of the Elks, a member of the Sideliners Club supporting Wooster Football, sponsored many Little League Baseball teams and Adult Softball teams and was a supporter of many local charities.
He proudly served his country with the US Navy.
In addition to his wife, Rose Ann, he is survived by his children JoLee Benden of Delaware, Ohio and Lorraine (Timothy) Boreman of Wooster; grandchildren Melissa (Sean) Campbell of Suwanee, Georgia, Dr. Jessica Fetterman of Boston, Joseph R. Boreman of Denver, Melanie (Jordan) Wattenbarger of Las Vegas and Megan (Kyle) Hanneman of Ostrander, Ohio and great-grandchildren, Michael W. Wattenbarger and Tobias D. Toby Wattenbarger and a God daughter, Bronwyn (Jeff) Sossong of Portage, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joseph R. Joey Benden, Jr. on July 2, 1986, a grandson, Nicholas Joseph, brothers, Francis and William Benden and a sister Mary Ellen Mitchell.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5-9:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
