WOOSTER “ Larry Dean Hilbert, 69, of Wooster passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at his home.He was born October 4, 1948 in Wooster, the son of Donald and Helen O ™Brien Hilbert.   He married Susan Ailer on July 14, 2001.   She survives.
He retired as a mechanical engineer from Motorcoach Industries in Loudonville.   Larry was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Wilderness Center Backpackers and was the former president of the Day Hikers Club, Friends of Wooster Memorial Park, the Friends of the Wayne Co. Park District (Barnes Preserve Vice President), visiting Mid-Ohio Race Track and was a member of the Rat Riders Vintage Bicycle Club.
Larry enjoyed exploring with Max, making walking/hiking sticks for people.   When Oak Hill Park was dedicated, he presented a stick to each member of Wooster City Council.   He also enjoyed hiking, biking, traveling, photography, preserving family history, collecting Hot Wheels, car shaped planters, egg scales, tee shirts coins and building a 1964 VW Baja.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Susan is a son, Derek Todd Hilbert of Michigan; his step-children, Hollie K.M. Landfried and Uriah N.T. Landfried; a grandson Maxwell Landfried, a sister Carla Daniels, and nieces, Amber Ratta of Marshallville and Jennifer Daniels of Wadsworth.
There will be no calling hours.   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 301 N. Market St., Wooster with the Rev. Ann Paynter officiating.   Burial will be at the FoxField Preserve at a later date.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
