SHREVE Loren H. VanGorder, 84 of Shreve went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Wayne Co. Care Center.
He was born July 5, 1930 in Olean, New York, the son of Howard and Myrtle Presher VanGorder. He married his loving wife and best friend, Martha Martie Beckwith on January 30, 1993. She survives.
He retired in 1996 after 36 years as a machinist for the Department of Commerce. He was a member of the Joy Baptist Church, the American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed repairing watches and clocks, gardening and cooking.
He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sharon (John) Goins of New Mexico and Richard (Natalie) VanGorder of Olney Maryland, a step-son, Jerry W. (Jenny Collier) Piper, Jr. of Bowie, Maryland; grandchildren, Brian (Eva) Goins, Kimberly (Chad) Heflin, Jason (Amanda) Goins and Justin (Tasha) Goins and 8 great- grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Gerald (Merylinn Jacot) VanGorder of Apple Creek, a niece, Vicki (Harold) Myers of Wooster and his canine companion, Badger.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received 2 hours prior to the 1:00 p.m. service on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev s. Doug Wilcox and Charles Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in the Apple Creek Cemetery.
