WOOSTER M. Lucille Lucy Breneman, a former First lady of Wooster and The First Lady in her family s heart passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Brookdale Assisted Living.
Lucy will be remembered for her love of life and welcoming spirit. Whether walking a round of golf, taking her daily exercise/dog walks, ice skating or roller skating, bowling or square dancing Lucy was an active lady. She was a gracious giver to anyone who was in need. Her answer to unexpected dinner guests was to put another potato in the pot . She was a good cook and loved to share food with neighbors, friends and members of her Church family.
She was happiest in social settings. She belonged and was active in many service organizations and local clubs. A member of First Presbyterian Church for 70 years, Lucy served as a Deacon, Elder, circle leader or wherever needed. She embraced being the wife of Mayor Clyde Breneman, enjoying the various obligations of Mr. and Mrs. Mayor.
Lucy had a beautiful smile and joyful laugh which was not lost to the dementia of the last few years. She loved to entertain and was quite the performer from humorous readings to piano accompaniment on various occasions.
Lucy was born to Robert and Ola Franks Sturgis on February 18, 1924. She grew up in Apple Creek, Ohio. Following high school she attended Wooster Business College and worked as a secretary at the Wooster Rubber Company (which became Rubbermaid). She met Clyde Breneman there. They were married on November 2, 1947 and were happily married 52 years until his passing in 2000. They have six children: Linda (Dave) Bush, Beth (Greg) Taylor, Paula Abrecht, Bob (Amy) Breneman, Jeff (Amy) Breneman and Ben (Sherria Lucci) Breneman, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
We all feel blessed to have been touched by Lucy s faith, love, fun and civic mindedness and hope to continue her legacy.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you for many years of loving care provided by the staff at Brookdale, LifeCare Hospice and Dr. David Reynolds.

A celebration of Lucy s Life will take place Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church,
621 College Ave., Wooster, OH 44691 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
