WOOSTER – Marilynn Eccles August, 94, of Wooster Ohio died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at West View Health Living Wooster, Ohio.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, September 27 at 2:30 at the Chapel in Town Square, West View Healthy Living, 1715 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster.
Marilynn was born July 22, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Edgewood High School, Pittsburgh in 1940, and completed three years at the College of Wooster before leaving school to marry Robert August, who was preparing to go to Europe to participate in the Normandy invasion.
After the war the couple moved to Cleveland where Bob became a journalist for the Cleveland Press and Marilynn had an active life as a devoted wife and mother, enjoying many great friendships and family nearby. Marilynn loved singing in the church choir and being active in many church and civic organizations. She was committed to the Democratic Party, community outreach and social justice causes.
Marilynn and Bob enjoyed a wonderful retirement life when they moved to Wooster in 1988. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon for many years, and loved the music and classes available through the college. She enjoyed the friendships of many interesting people. œDon ™t you just love people! was her often repeated comment. She felt deeply for the many suffering in the world. That is why we ask anyone who would like to contribute in her memory to give to the American Friends Service Committee 888-588-2372. This reputable charity does great work worldwide, especially dealing with various humanitarian causes that were close to Marilynn ™s heart.
She will be greatly missed. Surviving Marilynn are her daughter, Alison McCulloch, granddaughters Esther McCulloch and Sarah Parker, a great-grandson Elijah Parker, a sister Joey Scheppele and a brother Richard M. Eccles.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband Bob August and her parents William and Frances Eccles.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
