WOOSTER – Mauri Lee SLATER, 68, of Wooster, died unexpectedly at home Friday, March 25, 2016 at his home.
He was born May 31, 1947 in Wooster, son of Richard and Dorothy Drabenstott Slater.
He was a 1965 graduate of Wooster High School and attended Bliss College in Columbus graduating in 1969.   He also graduated from Law Enforcement School in 1990. He worked for Buckeye Security System in 1991 and at the College of Wooster from 1995 until he retired in 2003.   He had managed a Kresge store near Dayton and had been the manager of Arthur Treacher’s Fish Restaurant on Beall Avenue in Wooster.   He had also worked at Freedlander’s and at the Sheraton Hotel in Columbus.
While in Dayton, he saw the tornado that hit Xenia and when the Kenley Players stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Columbus, he met Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Polly Bergen and John Foresythe and many others.   Mauri enjoyed sky diving and making hooked rugs and wall hangings.
Surviving are his mother, Dorothy Slater of Wooster, a brother Gary Lee (Katherine) Slater of Las Vegas and a sister, Sharon Kay Zile of Wooster, a niece, Amanda (Brian) Polito of Las Vegas, a nephew, Tim (Jen Thomas) Slater of Mesa, AZ and a great-niece, Chloe Polito.
Mauri was preceded in death by father.
Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
