Michael D. Bates, 59, of Apple Creek died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born May 14, 1958 in Marietta to Kenneth L. and Wilma Marie Nau Bates.   On April 1, 2013 he Married Kathy Poirrier, who survives.
Michael was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a 1976 graduate of Wooster High School where he was a state wrestling qualifier.  He had attended Akron University.      Michael had worked for Ferriot as a supervisor for the last 10 years and had previously worked for Rubbermaid for 23 years.   He was an avid bowler and had bowled a perfect game.   Michael also enjoyed golfing and all sports in general.
Along with his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his children Santana (Charles) Gilbert of Wooster and Michael K. Bates of Orrville; grandchildren Annabelle Gilbert, Aden, Lilly and Gianna Bates; his parents of Smithville; a brother Kenneth E. Bates of North Canton; sisters Lisa (Michael) Crawford of Wooster and Theresa (Stuart) Swinehart of Apple Creek along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster.   Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
