WOOSTER “ Virginia I. œGinny  Merritt, 81, of Wooster passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg.
She was born June 30, 1935 in Ashland County, the daughter of Samuel W. and Hazel M. Houmard Cooper.   She was preceded in death by her partner of 28 years, Dick Newkirk in 2003.
She was a graduate of Wooster High School and had worked in the Produce Department at Buehler ™s for 35 years.   Ginny enjoyed bowling, fishing, the Cleveland Indians and spending time with family.   She was a mother figure to many.   She was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by brothers, Harold (Betty) Cooper of Orrville and Carl Cooper of Wooster and a sister, Mary (Virgil) Kelley of Shreve; her niece and caregiver, Carol (Doug) Currence of Shreve and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Joanne Roth-Hockenberry and Jane McDermott, a sister-in-law, Linda Cooper, nephew ™s, Bill and Dave Boykin and a niece, Nancy Jane Boykin.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 1:00 p.m. service on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev. Robert Meyer officiating.   Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
