WOOSTER – William A. Schneider, 71, of Wooster entered into rest January 7, 2008 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born in Elyria, OH on February 7, 1936 to William J. and Josephine (Gerhart) Schneider. He was the eldest of eleven children having been raised on a large grain and dairy farm.
Bill moved to Wooster in 1961, working the next 20 years in banking and finance. He owned his own carpentry business doing building and remodeling for 35 years, until September, 1982 when he joined the carpentry department at Ohio State University/O.A.R.D.C. He retired in June 2004.
Bill was a sports enthusiast, playing football, basketball, and baseball in Jr. High, High School and locally sponsored leagues. He coached Wooster Little League baseball and St. Mary’s Church league basketball with an undefeated season. Active along side George Pringle, he helped implement the starting ramp and the photo finish for the area soap box derby.
Bill was a 40 plus year Wooster Elks member.
He also served in the Naval Reserve. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved fishing, hunting, gardening and camping along with bowling, his passion for wood-working and time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Saltsman) Schneider, four daughters, Brianne (Michael) Schneider-Salata of Orrville, Patrice (Patrick) Black of Wooster, Anita (Phillip) Hawkins of Apple Creek, Debra (Richard) Howland of Wooster and son, Raymond (Lori) Schneider of Apple Creek; 11 grandchildren; 7 brothers and sisters also aurvive.
In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister and a granddaughter Julie Schneider.
