Wooster ? Virginia R. Mayberry 83, Passed away Tuesday June 10, 2008 at her home in Wooster, Ohio. Surviving are her daughter Nancy Mayberry Crisafulli, son-in-law Steven Crisafulli and her grand son Army Specialist John Thomas Crisafulli. Additional survivors are her sister Patty Collander, of Colorado Springs, CO, and sister-in-law Jean Rahl of Evanston, IL.
Virginia was born in KoKomo, IN on July 4, 1924, to William Albert and Sarah Bessie Strubbe. She was a graduate of Gilman High School, where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. Virginia also graduated from College of Wooster, with a BA degree, and a MS degree from Western Maryland University, with a Master Degree in Reading Education. Virginia became a elementary school teacher, and for 22 years she taught second grade and eventually became Reading Supervisor for Montgomery County, Maryland.
Virginia was a member of PEO where shortly after college she began her own local chapter and eventually became Ohio State President of PEO. While living in Fairview Park, Ohio she also served as President of Junior Women?s Club. After moving to Maryland, Virginia continued to serve with PEO and became Maryland State President of PEO. While in Maryland, she also served as Maryland State Treasure for Presbyterian Churches. She was church leader for the Sub Mariners Group of Geneva Presbyterian Church. After retirement, Virginia returned to Wooster, Ohio with her husband Richard Mayberry where she continued her membership with PEO, and served on the board at Boy?s Village. She was a member of Garden Club, Bridge Club, and the Methodist Christian Women?s Group. She also developed her own craft business called the Mayberry Patch where she hand made Christmas Ornaments for 21 years. Most importantly, Virginia was a loving wife and mother to her husband Richard E. Mayberry for 61 years, and daughter Nancy Mayberry Crisafulli for 54 years.
Virginia was a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church, and the Crystal Cathedral Ministries. Services and viewing will be at McIntire Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster. Viewing will be Thursday, June 12, from 6-8, and services will be Friday morning starting at 11:00 with Dr. David Wilcox officiating, Internment will be in Wooster Cemetery.
