WOOSTER – Norma Jean Rhode, 90 of Woosterand Naples, Fla., , died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at her home in Wooster with her family beside her.
Friends will may call Friday evening August 1, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster, OH, and a memorial service will then be held at Trinity United Church of Christ , 150 E. North St. Wooster,on Saturday , August 2, 11:00 A.M.

Norma was born October 17, 1917 in Mt. Eaton, to Earl and Lillian McConkey Tschantz. On June 2, 1940 , She married Kenneth G. Rhode of Wooster,Ohio.
As an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Wooster, Norma taught Sunday School and was a member and officer of many other organizations. She was a volunteer teacher at Ida Sue School when it first opened and was an avid reader and strong supporter of the Wayne County Library. Her home was filled with books , and she instilled the joy of reading in all of her family. She may be most remembered for her excellent bridge playing and enjoyed the challenge of the game throughout her life.
Norma especially enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with her good friends called the Fender Benders, otherwise lovingly known as the F.B.’s. The group included Lib Zapf, Min Owens, and Miriam Morgan. Another highlight of her later life was the Friday night dinner group which usually met at the Wooster Country Club and included her husband and their good friends, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Buehler, Mr. Pete Bogner, Mrs. Cora Gigax, Mr. and Mrs. Ford Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Huntley Pierce and Dr. and Mrs. Luther High, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weiss and Mr. and Mrs. John Dumas.
Norma is survived by her husband Kenneth and four children Beth (Dave) Eberhard of Vermillion, Ruth (John) Waltman of Millersburg, Ken (Adrienne) of Flagstaff, AZ, John of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Shirley (Don) Tope and Ruth Putman of Massillon, OH.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Tschantz. Numerous extended family members were also loved and cherished by her.
