WOOSTER – Mahlon Karlen HONAKER, 87, of Wooster, OH, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008 at Smithville Western Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 23, 1921 in Alliance, the son of Howard and Hulda Karlen Honaker.
Mahlon had farmed, been a machinist for E. W. Bliss Company, was in farm implement sales where he was a zone manager for Ford Motor Company in their farm implement division. In 1965 he started Honacker Marine retiring in 1980. In retirement he worked at the College of Wooster Golf House for 15 years. He was a member of the Church of the Saviour and a past member of the Nimishillen Grange and a past member of the Madisonburg Lion Club. He was a 1938 graduate of Alliance High School.
He enjoyed walleye fishing in Canada and bass fishing in Florida, loved golf and was a member of the Friday Senior League at the College of Wooster. He enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Ruth Chenot Honaker whom he married August 31, 1941; his children Nancy (Gerald) Brown and Joan (Charles) Kiper both of Wooster and Carol (Herbert) Young of Rocky Mountain, NC., grandchildren Sheryl (Steve) Ellcessor, Wendy (Steve) Jennings, Ronald (Karen) Brown, Scott (Jessica) Kiper, Brian (Jennifer) Kiper, Chad (Elizabeth Young, Michelle (Jeremy) Williams; 15 great-grandchildren;
Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, a grandson Mark Kiper, brothers Marvin and Kenneth Honaker and a sister Rosemary Honaker.
Memorial Services will be held at the Church of the Saviour on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Jerry Durham officiating. Private family burial will be held.
Friends will be received at the at the Church 1 hour prior to the time of the service.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
