Edwin Barlow Drake Sr., 85, of Wooster died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Smithville Western Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday Feb. 4, 2009 at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday evening Feb. 3, 2009.
He was born September 23, 1923 on the family farm in Bedford the son of Alonzo and Lura Rorabeck Drake Sr.. On March 10, 1949 he married Eleanor Jane Wirth who preceded him in death on December 6, 2007.
Edwin worked in the maintenance department for Wooster Brush from 1966 to 1994. Prior to working for Wooster Brush he had worked as a mechanic for Roy Conn in the 1950?s and into the 1960?s. He served his country in the United States Army serving in WWII in the 469th Engineering Mainenance Company. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Victory Metal. He fought in the battles of: Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Northern Appenines, and Po Valley. He had attended Central Christian Church.
Surviving are his 2 children: Edwin Barlow (Kathy Ann) Drake Jr. of Wooster, and Jane (Alan) Poulson of Wooster. Grandchildren: Glenn Ennis III, David (Christina) Ennis, Christopher (Gina) Drake, and Stephanie Ann (Jason) Cowart. Great Grandchildren: Cole Drake, Lane Drake, Zane Cowart, Aidenn Ennis, Trinnity Ennis, and Gavin Ennis.
Along with wife he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, and siblings: Sheldon Drake, Alonzo Drake Jr., and Helen Shankleton.
