WOOSTER – James Edward NIVIN, 83, of Wooster passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 in West View Manor Nursing Home.
He was born May 23, 1925 in Bellville, IL, son of William Winchester and Dulella Wilhelm Nivin.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan in 1951 with a degree in Navel Architecture and Marine Engineering. He retired as Vice President of American Commercial Barge Lines and Jeff Boat Company in Jeffersonville, IN after 30 years. He served his country with the U.S. Navy and fought in the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of the Propeller Club, American Legion Post #68 of Wooster and was an avid sailor. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Eleanor and Neil Linn Pooler of Wooster and Jody Ann and Barry Alton Riddle of Newburgh, IN, grandchildren Andrea Pooler Shin, Jamie Pooler O’Neill, James Nivin Pooler, Derek Alton Riddle, Sean Nivin Pooler and Jacqueline Marie Riddle; great-grandchildren, Arianna Antionette O’Neill and Scarlet Lucille Shin.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Anna Marie Downes Nivin, on May 5, 2006 whom he married December 28, 1947.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Moran officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery, Wooster.
Friends will be received at the the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 7-9:00 P.M.
