WOOSTER – Francis GRASSMANN, JR., 86, of Wooster passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1922 in Wooster the son of Francis Sr. and Sadie Reich Grassmann.
He had worked at Curtis Wright in Columbus, Goodyear Aircraft in Akron and then came back to Wooster to join his father in the family business, Ohio White Truck Service and then Grassmann G.M.C. Sales & Service. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. Jr. served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII serving in Naples, Foggia and Rome earning two bronze stars. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and the Odd Fellows.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Gorrell Grassmann, whom he married June 14, 1942; daughters, Claudia (Gary) Hendershot of Wooster and Cathy (Richard) Stoffer of Ashland, grandchildren Deborah Stoffer and Michael (Shanna) Stoffer.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Opal Grassmann.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Monday, March 9, 2009 from 1:30 P.M. until the 3:30 P.M. service with the Revs. Evelyn Manzella and Kevin Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
