Wooster – A. Louise McCoy, 93, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 in her home with her family by her side.
Louise McCoy was born in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1916 to John H. and S. Esther Tschop.
She was a graduate of Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio and received her degree in Home Economics from The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She married James H. McCoy in 1937 and moved to Wooster where she was active in 4-H, Wayne Township Housekeepers Club, Union Grange, Wayne County Agricultural Society, and the Wayne County Home Economics Club.
After her husband?s death in 1956, she began writing insurance for Wayne Mutual Insurance Company and later owned and managed an independent insurance agency for more than 50 years. She served as chairwoman of Wayne Mutual from 1990-96; president of the company from 1970-90 and was a director from 1958-2005. Louise was one of the original trustees of the Greater Wayne County Foundation, having served from 1978-97; and a member of the Wayne County Visitation Committee from 1981-96; a member of Quota Club International since 1970, having served as President in 1978-79. She was a member of Union Grange for more than 60 years and superintendent of the Wayne County Grange Cafeteria at the Wayne County Fairgrounds for more than 30 years. She was a member of Wayne Township Housekeepers Club for more than 70 years. She was a 4-H Club Advisor for more than 25 years and a member of Wayne County Home Economics Club.
For many years, Louise provided housing for visiting Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center personnel and Agricultural Technical Institute students. Louise was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Cross in Madisonburg.
Some of her many accolades include the Wooster Community Center?s Women of Achievement Award, Quotarian of the Year and the Athena Award given by the Wayne County Women?s Network.
She is survived by children, Suzanne (Don) Bryant of Wheeling, W.V., J. Stewart (Elizabeth) McCoy of Wooster, John (Mary Worboy) McCoy of Utica, OH and Karen McCoy (Llewellyn Westerman) of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; ten grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Bryant, Melissa (Ed) Rooney, Matthew (Carrie) McCoy, Metta (Michael) Zettler, Heidi (Matt) McMahon, Amy (Matt) Rohr, Mary (Adam) Weiss, Jim (Melinda) McCoy, Josh (Alexis) McCoy and Fara Westerman; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She will remembered with great affection by her dear friend Bernice Carmony and devoted care giver Elizabeth Staso, many nieces and nephews, all those who considered her their grandmother, and countless dear friends and relatives too numerous to mention.
Family and friends are invited to call at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, on Saturday, April 4 from 4-7 p.m. and share a celebration of Louise?s life at United Methodist Church of the Cross in Madisonburg with Pastor Thomas Shaw, officiating on Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. Burial will take place on Monday, April 6 at Wooster Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the A. Louise McCoy Fund c/o Wayne County Community Foundation 517 N. Market Street, Wooster, Ohio 44691. The fund will provide scholarships for 4-H Club members and will be also be used to support the Viola Startzman Clinic.
