WOOSTER – Wilson B. FRESHLEY, 95, of Wooster passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009 in Smithville Western Care Center.
He was born January 21, 1914 in Homeworth, OH the son of Palmer W. and Dora A. Unger Freshley.
He was a graduate of Alliance High School, attended Kent State University, received his bachelors degree from Mt. Union College and his masters in school administration from the University of Wisconsin. After graduation he taught 6 years in Columbiana County and 8 years in the Wooster City Schools. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and moved to Wooster in 1950. He was a member of meals together, the Wooster Camera Club, a Wooster Community Hospital Volunteer, People to People Ministries, a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir for over 40 years, was a member of the bell choir, the men’s chorus and the barbershop chorus and member of the Wooster Noon Lions.
Surviving are his wife, Frances R. McKarns Freshley, whom he married May 8, 1943; his children Margaret Kaye (Robert) Schultz of Naperville, IL, Glenda (Thomas) Gleason of Chicago, IL, Keith Freshley of Dallas, TX, and Gaylord (Annie) Freshley of Plasentia, CA, 4 grandchildren Jason & Erica Schultz, Megan & Colby Garrelts, Bryan and Meredith Gleason, and a great-granddaughter Madilyn Garrelts, brothers, Paul Freshley of Milwaukee and Dr. Dwight Freshley of Athens, GA.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2009 2:00 P.M. at the Wooster United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Black officiating. Private family burial will be held.
