WOOSTER – Irene C. JEWELL, 95, of Wooster passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1914 in Akron, the daughter of John and Christina Schweigert Bender. She married V. Hadley Jewell on August 14, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in Akron. He died March 23, 1979.
She was a homemaker and had worked for B.F. Goodrich, A & P Grocery and the former Kroger Store in the meat department. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster where she had been a past president of the Trinity Circle and of the combined circles, a past president and member of the Monday Mothers Club Group 5.
Surviving are a son, Hadley Dean (Cindy) Jewell of Fairport, NY, a daughter, Peg (Bert) Mahaffey of Wooster; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Scott Jewell (Doug and Nick), Amy Jewell (Nathan), Tom and Nicole Jewell (Maddie, Jack and William), Kurtis Jewell, Krista and Greg Jablonsky, Chad Mahaffey and Claire Hugon (Jake), and Chris & Abbie Mahaffey.
In addition to her her husband and parents she was preceded by a brother, John Paul Bud Bender and a sister Ava Kohler.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster of Thursday evening from 6-8:00 P.M. and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church.
Services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Dr. Alan E. Nathan officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
