WOOSTER – Paul A WINNER, 86, of Wooster passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born June 5, 1923 in Reedsburg the son of Charles F and Zorah Thompson Winner.
He was a 1941 graduate of Orrville High School and served as a freight agent for the Norfolk and Western Railroad for 28 years and later owned a Pepperidge Farm Franchise for 15 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII as a radio operator in the Air Transport Command of the North Atlantic Wing. He was well known in amateur radio through his call sign KF8LS. He was active in the Army MARS Radio Service frequently connecting families to their loved ones serving overseas through his home-based short-wave station.
Surviving are wife, Irene Rudy Winner; his children, Kathleen Moritz of Raleigh, NC, Karen (Dave) Claborn of Hilliard, OH, Sue (Jim) Smail, David (Beverly) Winner and Richard Winner all of Wooster; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ruth Seib Winner on December 3, 1975.
Friends may call one hour prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.with The Rev. Stephen Moran as the celebrant.. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery, Wooster.
