WOOSTER – J. Katherine (Daugherty) Allen went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 27, at Smithville Western Care Center surrounded by family.
She was born August 11, 1925 to Shelby and Yettie Elizabeth (White) Daugherty at Gilstrap, Kentucky. Katherine was a graduate of Ohio County High School. Prior to her marriage, Katherine had worked at the Wooster Preserving Company. Katherine married Roy Rains Allen on February 8, 1947 and in 1949 they moved to Wooster, Ohio.
Katherine was a member of the Wooster Church of the Nazarene where she had served as a children’s Sunday School teacher, was on the church board, was financial secretary for a number of years, and was involved in the prayer ministry. Her heart was in serving and she was always looking for opportunities to touch the lives of others. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Allen, Wooster with whom she made her home; one brother, Lester Daugherty of Bowling Green, Ky and one sister, Louise Goodman of Bowling Green, Ky. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were a very important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, who passed away in February of 1986; her parents; her sister, Dorine Evans and two brothers, Chester and Mayburn.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Wooster Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 3100 Oak Hill Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
A special thank you to the nurses, aides and staff at Smithville Western Care Center who provided not only excellent care but also became a second family to her in the short time she was there. Their love touches on her life and family will always be a source of comfort as we remember fondly how she was cared for–you are all very special.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday evening from 6-8:00 P.M.
