SHREVE – On March 19, 2010, Thomas J. Kilcourse (Tom) passed from this level of consciousness to the next.
He was born on November 23, 1946 to John Edward Kilcourse and Verna Rickens in Camden, New Jersey.
Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969 and from 1980-1996. During his military service time, Tom served aboard various naval vessels. He was mostly proud to have served on the U.S.S. Iowa during its 1987 Mediterranean Sea cruise. After serving his last tour of duty at the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Md, Tom retired from the Naval Service and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for his work with the 741st Military Intelligence Battalion. His other awards included the Defense Meritorious Medal, two Joint Service Achievement Medals, two Meritorious Unit Medals, two Naval Expedition Medals, four Overseas Ribbons and Expert Pistol Ribbon.
After moving to Wooster in 1997, Tom worked at the Wayne County Veterans Service Commission where he arranged transportation for the Veterans of Wayne County to the V.A. Hospital and enrolled veterans into the V.A. healthcare system. In December 2009, Tom decided to retire from the county due to his battle with Brain Cancer.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Penny, his sons; Matthew (Kelly) Kilcourse, Thomas J. Kilcourse, Jr., a daughter Samantha and three grandchildren Codie, Alexander and Aubrey.
A Service of Christian Burial will be on Monday March 29, 2010, at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St, Wooster at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman at 2:30 P.M.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
