WOOSTER – Sheldon Shelly GRASGREEN, 85, of Wooster, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Smithville Western Care Center..
He was born in Cleveland to Adolf and Anna G. Yoelson Grasgreen. Shelly attended school in Cleveland graduating from Glenville High School and Case Western Reserve University. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, was captured during the invasion of Italy and was in a Prisoner of War Camp in Munich Germany for the duration of the war.
He married Libby Abramson on July 14, 1957 and later moved to Wooster to become a partner in Lincoln Hi Way Auto Parts, an Abramson family business.
Shelly was an active fundraiser for many years for the Arthritis Foundation. He was President of Knesseth Israel Temple and the Wooster Chapter of B’nai B’rith. He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Wooster Racquet Club.
Surviving are wife, Libby Abramson Grasgreen, daughters, Amy (Matt) Potter of Boynton Beach, FL and Tracey Grasgreen (Jack Hummer) of Willoughby and a grandson, Samuel Hummer of Willoughby.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside Services will take place in Wooster Cemetery at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, June 17, 2010 with Rabbi Enid Lader officiating.
There will be a memorial luncheon for family and friends at Knesseth Israel Temple following services.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
