WOOSTER – Ellis L Chappy CHAPMAN, 84, of Wooster passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born August 12, 1925 in Friendsville, OH, son of William Harry and Lillian Eakin Chapman.
He was a pressman for the Daily Record for 32 years retiring in 1987 and was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. He was well known as a handy man and would offer a hand to anyone who asked. Served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in Normandy, Northern France and Germany earning a Purple Heart and three bronze battle stars.
Surviving are wife, Jean Redinger Chapman, whom he married July 24, 1947; daughter, Connie (John) DiMaggio of Charleston, SC and Debbie Hennebert of Akron; 3 grandchildren Brad (Shawnna) and Brian Hennebert and Nicki Fairchild; his siblings Kenneth (Edna) Chapman, Jeanette (Cliff) Cotterman both of Wooster and Joanne McClaren of Shreve.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Hank McClaren.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 12:00 noon service on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev. Dr. Kevan Franklin and Rev. Glenn Royer officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 1:30 p.m.
