Nicholas John Sczpanski passed peacefully away on September 5, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 15, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the United State Navy in World War II, aboard the destroyer USS Dallas. In 1942 the Dallas was awarded the Presidential Citation for its outstanding participation in the capture of Port Lyautey Airfield in French Morocco.
Nicholas worked for 44 years at Alcoa Aluminum retiring at age 65.
He continued to work until age 91 at the Chestnut Acres Apartments in Elyria Ohio. He enjoyed boating on Lake Erie, fishing for perch in summer and ice fishing in winter.
He loved to garden and had a magical green thumb, growing and preserving a variety of fruits and vegetables.
He resided in Elyria for 20 years prior to moving to Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his wife Stella (nee Ochwat), son Michael and sisters Anna Buchowski and Mary Wallace.
He is survived by his daughters Dr. Maryanne Olynyk of Shaker Heights, Linda Harrison of New Jersey and Tara Tibayan of Vermilion, and daughter in law Judy Sczpanski of Wooster. He is survived also by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 10 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Wooster.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
In lieu of flower donations may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, OH 44691.
