WOOSTER – Raymond Ward PORTER, 79, of Wooster, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, September 30, 2010 in his home.
He was born September 22, 1931 in Shreve, the son of Charles and Frances Clinage Porter. He married Phyllis Massaro on May 24, 1952. She survives.
He retired from Metalics Recycling after 35 years and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Ward was a member of American Legion Post 147, the Knights of Columbus #789 and the Lamplighters Civic and Social Club. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with and cooking for his family, watching the Cleveland Indians, the Browns, the Cavs, Ohio State and tea time at Leroy’s with his friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Vincent (Cyndi) Porter of San Antonio, TX, Raymond Porter, II of Glenmont and his significant other Tracey Weber, Kathleen (Dale) Kissel of Smithville and Barbara (Dave) Ledford of Orrville; grandchildren, Michael (Niki) Porter, Rhiannon (Adam) Ginther, Stephanie, Christopher and Brian Porter, Melissa and David Ledford and Amanda Kissel; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Rose of Wooster and Mary Mullins of New Philadelphia, brothers, Robert Porter of New Philadelphia, Ronnie Porter of Florida and Charles Porter Jr. of Wooster.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Thelma Porter, sisters Mabel Warnes, Betty Rosenbaum and Jean Drumm and a step-brother Curtis Knight.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 from 5-8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
