WOOSTER – Virginia Rose Clevenger POCOCK died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the West View Manor Nursing Home in Wooster.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Christian Church, 407 North Market Street, Wooster, Ohio with the Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. Burial will be in the Wooster Cemetery following the service. Calling hours will be 1 hour before the service at the Church.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
Virginia Rose Clevenger Pocock was born August 14, 1929 to Roy Raymond and Rose Ellen Weaver Clevenger in Wooster. She married Carl Leroy Pocock December 29, 1957. He died October 8, 2006.
She attended Elementary School in Chardon and at Beall Avenue and Wooster Township Schools in Wooster. She graduated from Wooster High School in 1948. She graduated from The Cincinnati Bible Seminary in 1952 and from Ashland College in 1957 with a BS Degree in Education. She taught 11 years at Shreve Elementary School.
Virginia was an active member of the Central Christian Church in Wooster since 1939.where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship from 1982-1984 and 1988-1990. She was the Sunshine Lady for 50 years (1960-2010) sending cards to church members. She also made Easter Booklets sending them to nursing home and homebound members. She was an active member of the Church Workshop Committee working on a number of projects throughout the year. Virginia joined the Ohio Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi of Wooster in 1960. She received her 50 year pin and certificate in 2010 from the Alpha Mu Master Chapter in Wooster where she served as secretary for many years.
She is survived by her sister Ruth Marie Clevenger Smailes and three children: Rose Marie Pocock (Mike) Teter of Madison, OH, Raymond Earl Pocock of Wooster and Doris Mae Pocock (Chris) Carmichael of Delaware; grandchildren Joseph Kenneth and Richard Carl Teter of Madison and Camille Magdelene and Christin Rose Carmichael of Delaware.
