Wooster, Ohio – Lawrence H MILLS, 88, of Wooster, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Horn Nursing Home.
He was born November 28, 1922 in Wellsburg, WV, son of Lawrence A and Eva Marie Mayhew Mills.
He had been a coal miner until 1957 and retired from Diebold Co. in 1985. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church, Was a member of the Lamplighters, the Moose Lodge where he served as a Past Governor, was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagles Lodge.. He is well remembered in the Ohio Valley as one of the best 2nd basemen for Windsor Power. He served his country with the U.S. Army during WWI as a medic attached to a Marine Unit and at Iwo Jimo. He moved to Ohio in 1958 from West Virginia..
Surviving are step-son, E. G. Simmons of Ovid, Michigan, a brother, Leslie Mills of Shreveport,Louisana, a nephew, Jim (Kitty) Via of Brewster and many other nieces and nephews
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia Naylor Mills on April 3, 1998 whom he married August 26, 1957 and by siblings Joseph, Patrick, Michael, Bythia, Dorothy, Ruth, Margaret and Ramona.
Services will be held at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg, WV26070-1411 on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, West Virginia.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Monday, February 7, 2011 from 2-4:00 p.m. and at theReasner Funeral Home 1 hour prior to the service.
