WOOSTER – Richard S.Dick THOMAS, 81, of Wooster, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 in his home after a period of declining health.
He was born March 14, 1929 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Eugene and Mary Burgan Thomas. He earned degrees from Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan.
He retired in 1990 as International Vice President of Rubbermaid. He had worked for GE for 30 years in a variety of global assignments, served as President of Scott Aviation, Inc. of Lancaster, NY, and was senior Vice President of Panasote, Inc. in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Subsequent to his retirement he was the Principal of Global Dynamics, Ltd. which was designed to assist small businesses enter into world markets. He also served as Adjunct Professor of International Business at the University of Akron and as the Interim Director of Career Development with the College of Wooster. He was a Board member of Wayne County Alcoholism Service, Ohio Light Opera and West View Manor as well as a multi-year member of the Board of Advisors of Prentke Romich Co. He also served as Vice President of the Wayne Co. Airport Authority. He supported his wife in establishing Montessori Education in Wayne County.
Surviving are wife, Margaret Marge Haerting Thomas, whom he married December 17, 1955; a daughter, Colleen (Rodrigo Torres) Thomas of Pleasant Hill, California and a sister, Jane (Don) Hagaman of Peoria, Illinois.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Unitarian Univeralist Fellowship Church, 3186 Burbank Road, Wooster, Ohio on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. V. Elaine Strawn officiating. Private interment will in the Foxfield Preserve, a green cemetery in Wilmot, Ohio.
Friends will be received following the service at the Church. Due to health concerns, the family requests that friends refrain from wearing scented products
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
