Virgil William Smith, 81, of Wooster, died Saturday May 28, 2011 at Kingston of Ashland.
He was born October 14, 1929 in Edna, OK, son of the late Frank and Gertrude Erickson Smith.
Virgil was the owner and operator of the West Salem Water Well Drilling. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his family came first and loved to hear his grandson?s music.
He served his country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Parkview Church of Christ, First Baptist Church in Homosassa Florida where he and his wife spent the winters. Virgil was also a member of the West Salem Lodge #398 F & Am, a Past Master, High Priest of the Chapter, a 32 degree Mason, Knights of Ireland and was a volunteer in the Homosassa State Wildlife Park in Florida.
Surviving are wife of 53 years, Frances Sexton Smith of Wooster; daughter, Christine (Jim) Redmon of Loudonville, granddaughter, Stacey Minter, grandson Devin Minter and sisters, Ann Rickel of Magadore and Fran Fawcett of Wooster.
Along with his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 2 at 1:30 PM at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Rev. Ivan Beatty officiating. Interment will follow in the West Salem Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8:15 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
