WOOSTER – Thelma DAUGHERTY, 95, of Newark passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 in West View Manor Nursing Home.
She was born April 28, 1916 in Concord, Kentucky, the daughter of Evert and Grace Gryham Burris. She married Floyd Daugherty in 1945. He died October 1, 1990.
She was a homemaker. During WWII she worked for Goodyear Aircraft making fighter planes and she had worked for the former Buckeye Aluminum as a packer. Thelma was an avid gardner, enjoyed yardwork, visiting with neighbors and enjoyed jewelry.
Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret Gisinger of Newark, Clifton (Dorothy) Daugherty of Wooster, , Ruby Mizer of Wooster and Mildred McFarland of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; a nephew Floyd Buddy Burris and nieces Donna Moore, Jane (John) Daugherty, Barb (Eugene) Large and Cheryl (Charles) Hackworth all of Wooster, Phyllis (Mike) VanDyke of Newark and Ann Klinedinest and Katherine Oliver of Canton, Illinois, her best friend Pauline Smith
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mary Boyd and Theona Plummer.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev. Larry Black officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.
