WOOSTER ? Dr. Edward Homer BOHL D.V.M., 89, of Wooster, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in West View Manor Nursing Home in Wooster, Ohio.
Edward was born October 16, 1921 in Georgetown, Ohio, the son of Charles Henry and Nettie Agnes (Remley) Bohl. He graduated from Lebanon High School, (Lebanon, Ohio) in 1939. Edward graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1944 from the Ohio State University. He served with the US Army in Europe during WWII. He married Jessie A. Pettigrew on September 21, 1947 in Corning, Ohio. They were married for 62 years. He then completed a Master?s Degree in 1948 and PhD Degree in 1952 all from the Ohio State University.
Dr. Bohl was a world-renowned Professor of Veterinary Microbiology at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) from 1963-1982, and prior to that he was a Professor at the Ohio State University (OSU) College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbus. He had a large network of OSU and OARDC graduate students and colleagues. He was a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church, past president of the Wayne County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and a member of the Wooster Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, gardening, playing tennis and visiting family and friends.
Surviving are his sons, Phillip Bruce (Theresa) Bohl of Canton, Michigan, Edward Eric (Karen) Bohl of New Richmond, Wisconsin and David Christian Bohl of Woodbridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer Bohl, Jason Bohl, Nancy (Matthew) Bohl Bormann, Katie (Jeffrey) Osterhaus, Charles (Maria) Bohl, Edward S. Bohl and Kristine Bohl; great-grandson, Reece Bormann. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, his parents and his siblings Walter Bohl, Howard Bohl, Richard Bohl, Mary Glover and Charles Bohl.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday evening, July 22, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Wooster United Methodist Church on Saturday.
Services will be held at Wooster United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Black officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
