Jack W. Gompf, 94, of Wooster, died Saturday July 23, 2011 in Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born August 2, 1916 in Waldo, OH, son of the late Lowell and Helen Wichman Gompf.
He was originally from Cleveland and attended Miami University where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps at the time of Pearl Harbor, and ultimately flew 94 missions with the 31st Fighter Group in Italy.
He married Jane Rider in 1942, and they lived in Delaware and Massillon before moving to Wooster in 1951.
He was a career agent with the Paul Revere Insurance Companies before his retirement.
Surviving are wife, Jane Gompf of Wooster; sons, John (Linda) Gompf of Union Pier, MI, and Phillip (Carole) Gompf of Stevensville, MD; grandson, Jeff Gompf and a sister, Patricia Green of Colorado Springs, CO.
Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Gompf in 1997.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
