Kenneth Robert Plusquellec, 75, died unexpectedly at his home on August 9. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at 7:00 PM on Tuesday August 23.
Ken was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 13, 1935, to Peter and Martha (Evans) Plusquellec, and grew up in Wheeling, WV. He graduated from the Linsly School in Wheeling, and received a B.A. from The College of Wooster in 1957. In 1960 he received a Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary.
In 1975 Ken became the Dean of Students at The College of Wooster, and served in this capacity until his retirement in 2001. Prior to this he was an Associate Dean of Students from 1970 until 1975, and Assistant Director of Admissions from 1967 until 1970. He was an ordained minister and served as pastor of The Ogden Presbyterian Church, Spencerport, NY from 1960 until 1967.
At The College of Wooster Ken served on a wide variety of committees, including the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Special Presidential Commission on Campus Race Relations, and the Trustee Committee on the Religious Dimension of the College. He particularly enjoyed time spent volunteering as Assistant Varsity Swimming Coach for 15 years. He was a member of several professional organizations and served as President of the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Region IV.
Ken was a devoted community volunteer and served on the boards of directors of Wooster Community Hospital, Wayne County Council on Drug Abuse, Wayne Center for the Arts, Wooster Community Day Care Center, Wee Care Center, Wayne County Commission on Human Rights, and Every Woman?s House, among others, and as a volunteer at the Viola Startzman Clinic. He attended St. James Episcopal Church, where he served as a lector and member of the altar guild. He was an avid reader and lover of the arts and music.
In 1957 Ken married Louise Byers, who survives. He is also survived by his mother of Wheeling, WV, daughter Martha (Leah Creelman) of Boston, MA, son Scott of Seattle, WA, grandchildren Ella, Evan and Justin Conte-Wood of Seattle, brother Paul (Betty) of Montgomery, TX, sister-in-law Mary (Earl) Walker of Auburn, CA, brother-in-law Jack (Jean) Fanselow of Los Osos, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and a sister-in-law, Peggy Fanselow.
Ken will be remembered for his commitment to social justice and equality, particularly in his role as an advocate for all students during their college experience.
