WOOSTER – Mary Adriana GASBARRE, 86, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in her home surrounded by family members.
She was born November 2, 1924 in Wooster, the daughter of Serafino Samuel and Maria Tomassetti DelPropost. She married Raymond W. Gasbarre on November 12, 1945. He survives.
Mary graduated from Wooster High School in 1942 and went to Columbus for office training, retired in 1988 from Wayne Co. Board of Elections after 23 years as a clerk and director. She had also been a teletype operator for Western Union for 3 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, had sung with the Church choir, was a Eucharistic Minister and had served as president and secretary of the Catholic Daughters of America and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Mission Circle #10. She had served as secretary of the Lamplighters Auxiliary and the Lamplighters Social Club, had served on the Senior Citizens Committee and the Park and Recreation Board. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and tracing the family history which included many trips to Italy.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, William R (Cherry West) Gasbarre, Patricia A (Patrick) Neyhart, and Edward A (Penny) Gasbarre all of Wooster, Margaret Peggy M (Bill) Bannan of Mentor and Beatrice M Wheatley of Maysville, Kentucky; 4 grandchildren, Brianne Wheatley, Charles (Erica) Neyhart, Sarah (Nick) Klingensmith, Dr. Deidre (Arnold) McIntosh; 3 step-grandchildren Brandy and Scott Wint and Amanda Wallace; 6 great-grandchildren Vincent, Pierce and Laona Neyhart, Alyssa-Rae and Austin McIntosh and Aidan Wint. a brother, Vincent J Jim DelPropost and sisters Helen E Grande and Edith L Crowner, a sister-in-law Florence Keltz, and a brother-in-law Paul Conn and numerous nieces and nephews along with so many wonderful and caring friends. Very special adopted family member Jeff and Jamie Collins and their children Lucas and Kendall.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Josephine, a grandchild Bridget Wheatley, a son-in-law Steven Wheatley, and sisters-in-law Virginia Gasbarre DelPropost, Mary Lou Gasbarre Conn, Velma Bauer Gasbarre, brothers-in-law Lewis Duke Crowner, Francis Grande, Msgr. Francis E. Gasbarre, Joseph Gasbarre, Sr., and Donald Keltz, brothers and sisters-in-law Carl and Mary DePasqua Casper, Ben and Josephine Dorazio Gasbarre.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday evening from 5-8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.
