Elinor A. ?Phyllis? Gatz, 88, of Wooster died Saturday September 3, 2011 at Wooster Community Hospital. She was born on September 23, 1922 in Amherst daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grugel.
Elinor graduated from Elyria High School in 1940 and during World War II worked as a secretary. She was a homemaker, a member of Wayne Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and the Shreve Garden Club; had been a volunteer at Northwestern Elementary School and Every Woman?s House. Elinor was also very active with the Triway Capers and the Red Stocking Review and performed at area nursing homes.
Elinor is survived by her children Laura (Del) Woodring of Burbank and Dr. Alan Gatz of Lakewood; six grandchildren and sisters Viola Turner and Joann Frank both of Cape Coral, Florida.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Edward Gatz in 1989, sons Tom and Ed and a brother Frank Grugel Jr.
Funeral service will be held on Friday September 9 at 6:00 PM at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 7152 Burbank Road, Wooster, with Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
