Alice M. HORN, of Wooster, , passed away on Friday Sept.9, 2011 peacefully at her home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the Wooster United Methodist Church 243 N. Market St. Wooster, Ohio 44691 with Rev. Dr. David Wilcox officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster, Ohio 44691 Monday evening from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Viola Startzman Free Clinic 1874 Cleveland Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691, Village Network 2803 Akron Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691 or to the Salvation Army 437 S. Market St. Wooster, Ohio 44691. She was born in Otsego Co. Michigan, to Charles and Hattie Asel Swanson, and was a 1935 graduate of Gaylord High School. After graduation , she moved to Wooster. She married Wayne G. Horn in February of 1941. He died in January of 1968. Alice was a licensed practical nurse and a licensed nursing home administrator. In 1954 she and her mother-in-law, Nellie Horn, established Horn Nursing Home, After Nellie Horn retired to Florida in 1960, Alice and her husband managed three Wooster Nursing Homes, Upon graduating from college, her son James joined her in the family business as partner and co-owner. Two of the nursing homes in Wooster were phased out and in 1975 the complex on Smithville Western road was started, which became The Horn Group, consisting of Horn Nursing Home, Smithville Western Care Center , Wayne Manor and the Independent Living Town Houses. Alice served on the Board of Directors of the Wooster Chamber of Commerce, the first Ohio Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Health Care Association, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer, She was a former member and President of the Quota Club of Wooster, and served on the Board of Directors when Hospice of Wayne County was being formed.She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wooster, Dorcas Circle, and the Olive Branch Garden Club. She was a devoted mother, grandmother,great-grandmother, bridge player, traveler, and an avid reader of current events. Surviving are a daughter Lois King of Clearwater, Fla., son and daughter-in-law James and Jane Horn of Richland, Mi., son Denny Horn of Wooster , and daughter-in-law Cynthia Horn of Wooster,Grandchildren Stephen King of Clearwater, Fla., Andrew Horn (Maria) of Battle Creek, Mi., Suzanne Horn Green (Chad) of California, and Alison Horn of Wooster. Also Surviving are great-grandchildren Jack Green, Audrey Horn, Andrew Horn, and Ava Horn. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
