WOOSTER – Dorothy E PURDY, 94, of Wooster, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born September 6, 1917 in Millersburg, the daughter of Lemon F and Mabel Korns Van Sickle. She married Thomas W. Purdy on August 9, 1941. He died August 2, 2011.
She retired as a cook from the Millersburg School after several years of employment. Dorothy was a member of the Central Christian Church. She loved gardening, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved watching football and baseball.
Surviving are her children Russell (Judy) Reed of Coshocton, Randy (Dottie) Purdy of Wooster and Gary (Romaine) Purdy of Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Helen Wetz of Wooster.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glen, Willis, Wilford, Raymond, Delon and Leland Van Sickle and sisters Beulah Kaser, Geraldine Didinger andMarjorie Mitten.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday evening from 5-7:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
