WOOSTER ? Marlea Ann Crum (Stillings), 79, of Wooster, OH died on January 12, 2012 at West View Manor after an extended illness.
A beloved mother and wife, Marlea, was born in Fostoria, OH on November 29, 1932 to Bonny and Walter Stillings. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Porter W. Crum, her daughters Marjorie Crum (Frank Bov) of Pittsford, NY, Eileen Crum Tamasovich (Terry) of Lewis Center, OH and her son Michael Crum (Vilma) of Temple, TX. Survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her remaining sister, Kathleen (Kathy) Stillings Moore (Wayne). Marlea was predeceased by her brother, Terry W. Stillings and her parents.
Marlea was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Carmel Hospital School of Nursing (Mount Carmel College of Nursing, today) with a R.N. Degree. She worked in the medical field for over 45 years in hospitals and private practices. She worked for 30 plus years as a nurse for the Wooster Clinic; working in the offices of Dr. Judd, Dr. Young, and Dr. William Smith. She loved her job, especially working with patients.
She joined her husband in the establishment of Crum Drugs, working behind the scenes as an officer of the company for over thirty years.
Marlea had a passion for music. She played the piano throughout her life. After emergency open-heart surgery in 1984, she began playing the harp, studying harp under Alice Chalifoux, former principal harpist for the Cleveland Orchestra. She played in concert, at weddings and retirement parties, as well as civic performances in the Ohio, Scotland (UK) and in Wooster and surrounding communities. She taught harp lessons and her students played recitals at the Concordia Lutheran Church. She became an award-winning composer of harp music at 70 years of age.
She was a charter member of the Salvation Army Women?s Auxiliary, a long-time member of the Wooster United Methodist Church, Quota Club, a past president of the Wooster MacDowell Music Club, a past secretary and program director of the Deborah Dorcas Circle, a member of the Mother?s Club, the Girl Scouts of America and the Wayne County 4-H.
She loved antiques and collected antique dolls. Affectionately known as the ?Doll Lady? she also made clothespin dolls that she exhibited and sold at doll shows and craft fairs.
A Memorial service to celebrate Marlea?s life will be held at the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 with the Rev. Larry Black officiating.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
