MANSFIELD – Welby E. Matheny, (71) passed away, Sunday, January 22, 2012 after a brief illness. Welby was born and raised in Killbuck and Millersburg, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Air Force following his graduation from Millersburg High School in 1958. After his four years of service in the Air Force, he worked for several years for Diebold, was self-employed and worked as a truck driver for many years.
Welby was a lover of cars, boats and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hiking and was an avid reader. He never met a stranger.
Welby was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey (Dale) and Elizabeth, sister, Mary Raymond, brothers Harvey, Samuel and Willis. He is survived by sisters; Ruth Gray, Francis Starner and Gertrude McVicker and many nieces and nephews, as well as, his former wife, Judy Ford, three children Karen Lahovich (Joe), Troy (Janice), and Jeff (Steffi) and six grandchildren; Kyle Fulford, Emily Vaeth, Zachary Matheny, Caleb Matheny, Joshua Matheny, Nathan Lahovich and one great-grandchild, Griffin Fulford. He is also survived by his loving fianc?, Ila Clevidence of Mansfield who will miss him dearly.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. A brief memorial service will be held at 8:00p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
