WOOSTER – Florence Lucille CHANCE, 87, of Wooster, passed away Monday February 27, 2012 in West View Manor Nursing Home.
She was born April 1, 1924 in Wayne Co., the daughter of Frank and Helen McCullough Beck. She married Wilmer Chance on October 27, 1940. He died July 12, 1989.
She was a homemaker and helped farm along side of her husband, Wilmer on the family farm. She was a member of the Emanuel Old Stone Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, helped with Bible School, was involved in the Women’s Guild activities including the Elderberry Pie Bazaar for many years and helped with blood drives. She was a member of and President of the New Pittsburgh Senior Citizens organizing programs and trips, a 4-H Advisor for the Chester Farmerettes and served on the County 4-H Council, was known as the pie lady at the Grange Hall at the county fair for over 10 years, loved following baseball while and after her son played professionally along with watching other sports and bowling with senior leagues.
She and her husband played euchre with several groups. She loved being with and following activities of her family, especially grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Florence was a wonderful cook and no one ever visited her home without being served something delicious to eat. She was a true people person who was always think of others.
Surviving are a son, Wilmer Dean Chance of Wooster and a daughter, Janet L (Richard) Connelly of Jeromesville, 3 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Arlene Hartzler of Wooster.
In addition to her husband, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Raymond and George Beck and sisters, Anna Wirth and Helen Austin.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St. on Wednesday evening, February 29, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Bartkowiak officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
